Tips for Buying an ATV

Model Type

While ATVs are commonly associated with recreation, there are in fact different models to support more specialized uses. When shopping for an ATV you’ll have your choice of sport, utility, and standard ATV models. As you may expect, sports models are a bit smaller to allow for higher speeds and tighter turns. Utility models are boxier, heavier, and have some pretty impressive weight capabilities. A standard model is a compromise between the two, large enough to seat one to two passengers, but still able to reach top speeds. 

Experience 

ATVs are equipped with extremely powerful engines to allow you to slog through tough terrain and reach impressive speeds. If you’re a first-time ATV rider, you might want to avoid some of these more overpowered models, as they’re easy to lose control of if you don't have the necessary experience. Sports models are especially guilty of this, as they have extremely powerful engines, but very light bodies. When browsing models, be sure to ask your salesperson for a model’s engine specs before deciding to take it on a test drive. 

Budget

Buyers can sometimes lose sight of their budgets when shopping for their new ATVs. It’s easy to be won over by a model’s fancy bells and whistles, even if they’re not features you necessarily need. Do your best to have a set budget in mind before you arrive at the dealership, and ask your salesperson to only show you models within a certain price range. The last thing you want is to go into debt because of your ATV or even have it repossessed.
